Breathing

All breathing should be done through the nose only; breathing through the mouth weakens the heart. The inhalation and exhalation should be the same length and maintained throughout the practice. The breath should flow smoothly without breaks in between and with a low hissing sound in the base of the throat. Long, deep breathing activates the digestive fire that burns in lower abdomen and helps to rid our bodies of toxins.

Vinyasa; for each movement there is one breath.

The purpose of vinyasa is internal cleansing. Breathing and moving together while perfoming asanas makes the blood hot. Thick blood is dirty and impure, causing disease in the body. The heat created from vinyasas cleanses the blood and makes it thin, so that it may circulate freely. When there is a lack of circulation pain occurs. The combination of the asanas with movement and breath make the blood circulate freely around all the joints, taking away body pains. The heated blood also moves through all the internal organs removing impurities and disease which are release from the body by the heat that occurs during practice.

Beauty in Truth

I see and find Beauty in Truth or through Truth. All Truths, not merely true ideas, but truthful faces, truthful pictures, or songs, are highly beautiful. People generally fail to see Beauty in Truth, the ordinary man runs away from it and becomes blind to the beauty in it. Whenever men begin to see Beauty in Truth, then true Art will arise.

Benefits of Pranayama

Breathing is a normal part of our life, though we often fail to pay attention to it. It is an autonomic function of the body that we perform even without concentrating on it. Why then do we have to learn yoga breathing? Here are some reasons why Pranayama is important:

  • Teaches us the proper way to breathe. We became used to breathing from our chest, using only a fraction of the lungs, not knowing that this unhealthy and unnatural way of inhaling may lead to several complications. With yoga breathing, we increase the capacity of our lungs, bringing more oxygen supply to the body to function well. We learn how to breathe slowly and deeply - the right way.
  • Reduces the toxins and body wastes from within our body. It prevents one from acquiring diseases.
  • Helps in one’s digestion. With the proper way of breathing, one’s metabolism and health condition will start to improve.
  • Develops our concentration and focus. It fights away stress and relaxes the body. Controlling one’s breathing also results to serenity and peace of mind.
  • Offers a better self-control. Through concentration, one can better handle temper and reactions. Mind can function clearly, avoiding arguments and wrong decisions. Moreover, self-control also involves control over one’s physical body.
  • Leads to spiritual journey through a relaxed body and mind. By practicing deep and systematic breathing through Pranayama, we reenergize our body.
